Boho clothing – the origin of the “bohemian style”

“Boho clothes” style. Its origin goes back to the Indian Gypsies in the thirteenth century AD who were leaving India due to the difficulties it faced at that time. This is why you often see Indian influenced styles in style. Due to the nomadic tendencies of the Roma, the style spread across Europe and made its way to the United States, and now Hollywood. Its American roots stem from the artists of Romania and France and it was the style of choice or natural for those who might have had to buy their second-hand.

The beatniks of the 1940s and 1950s were artists and mostly traveling vagabonds. Their style was influenced by the bohemian artists of Europe (Paris in particular). The European version is often depicted with a turtleneck and hat. The style continued to flourish in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s as it was picked up by the hippie movement. “Hippie” is a term originating from the “hipsters” of the Beat movement. Hippies also tended to be artistic and free-thinking and were often nomadic as well.

Today, the look is still the hot trend in Hollywood that has influenced its power all over the United States and around the world. Celebrities known for boho-chic outfits include: Stevie Nicks, Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton, Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, The Olsen Twins, Carrie Underwood, Hilary Duff, Kirsten Dunst, and Lindsay Lohan. There are also a host of male celebrities who sport the look, including Johnny Depp, Lenny Kravitz, and Paul Newman. Check out the runway and it’s all over the place!
