Buy shoes for comfort rather than style
I have explained this in a number of posts, but I will continue to say that, when you go shoe shopping, you should put comfort before shoe style. For me, that’s crucial because you’re actually wearing the shoes, the elegant part is more for the viewer and not the person wearing the shoes. Sometimes I find myself buying some shoes that look great but can’t be too pricey either. First of all, comfort is what I count on when buying shoes. I have to be comfortable wearing the shoes because I plan to walk in them all day and I don’t want to come home to change my shoes because my feet hurt since I made a bad shoe choice. Therefore, it is important to take your time in the store when trying on pairs of shoes. I’ve seen people simply walk in and ask their size and say they’re ready to go simply because they think they’ll love the shoe and feel comfortable wearing it. Some shoes are designed a little differently where you need to go up a half size to be comfortable. Some shoes run a little smaller and some shoes run a little bigger.
You should try on both shoes and walk around the store to get a feel for how comfortable the shoes are. As I’ve mentioned in other posts, the employee probably won’t mind because you’re basically investing in the shoe because you don’t plan on wearing it once, you want to have it for months on end or years. In addition, you should try on more than one pair and let the staff know what level of comfort you are looking for, and they will guide you to the right shoe. Some people need more padding than others. For example, my dad has a bad back, so he needs shoes with more padding or cushioning to make him feel comfortable walking all day. A couple of years ago, my dad had invested in Sketchers memory foam shoes that have greatly helped keep his back pain to a minimum or to where he feels no pain at all. Buying the wrong shoes can also lead to other problems not just back pain. Tight pointed shoes are also bad because they basically put pressure on the ball of your foot. Most narrow-toe shoes are dress shoes, and you should stick to traditional round-toe shoes instead of narrow, pointed-toe shoes. It can lead to bunions, corns, and other deformities of the toes. You don’t want these to only look good while you’re wearing them because these problems will only get worse over time if you keep wearing them. Some people have flat feet and you should also make sure that you buy shoes designed for your foot.
Forgot to mention, when you are in the store, you can also ask the clerk to measure the length and width of your foot to give him a better idea of what shoes to try on. Some shoes are sold in larger sizes, so this can be a huge help in finding the right shoe. Another suggestion an employee told me a while ago is to go shopping in the evening. Tell me your feet tend to swell at the end of the day which changes your shoe size. This does not mean that you may be a size 9 in the morning and a size 12 in the afternoon, which is not the case, you may only need a half size up or the next size up. In addition to the last point I made, some people have one foot larger than the other and I would suggest buying the size that will fit the larger foot for obvious reasons. If you buy the smaller size, your big feet will be uncomfortable and sore. Buying comfortable shoes is very important because you plan to wear the shoes many times so you need to be able to wear them all day long and not think about your feet hurting. There are different types of shoes too, and you can check out my other post for that. There are different types for the different activities you plan to do throughout the day, just make sure you buy the right ones.
There are many reviews on websites about shoes that others have found comfortable and you should take their word for it but always try on the shoe before making your final decision. I also choose to stay away from buying from online stores because I want to see the shoe in person and I want to try on the shoe. It’s also a big deal if the website you went to doesn’t have an actual physical store to go to when you want to return the shoes, so it’s a big deal. I can’t stress the importance of buying comfortable shoes and I will keep saying it so people don’t hurt themselves with a bad pair of shoes. Many problems come with a bad pair of shoes and you can easily google all the problems people have because of a bad choice they made in the store. Don’t buy on impulse and make sure you get your money’s worth when you choose which pair to buy. It is easy to avoid all these problems, you just have to be patient enough when finding the right shoe to avoid long-term problems. Your pain and suffering are not worth those shoes you wear just to match your clothes. I don’t want to make this sound like a life or death decision but they are important because they support your body and with the wrong pair, you can expect major back and foot problems.
